Three birdies on the back nine helped secure the June Medal title for Daniel Cunningham on Sunday on the Royal County Down Championship links.

Liam carded four birdies during his round on the 1st, 10th, 12th and 16th, while seven pars helped steady the ship after double bogeys on the 5th, 9th and 15th. Cunningham would post a nett score of 68.

Cunningham played the final three holes in 1 under-par, with two crucial pars following the birdie on 16 to secure a one shot victory over Senior Cup prospect Patrick McNiff.

McNiff produced stunning, blemish-free 3 under-par front nine with birdies on the 1st, 2nd and 7th holes. Two more birdies would follow on the back nine, but dropped shots on the 14th, 15th, 16th and 18th would prove costly for Patrick. Nevertheless, a nett score of 69 is a fitting reward for the form McNiff has flashed in recent weeks.

Continuing his own fine form so far this season, Ryan Brannigan’s score of nett 70 was enough to secure third place. Ryan’s front nine was a slow burner, bogeying seven of the opening nine holes before catching fire on the back nine. The bogeys of the front nine were replaced with pars and birdies, with two birds dropping on the 13th and 16th for a gross 1 under-par backside.

Michael McGrillen’s nett score of 70 was enough to take home the Division 2 June Medal crown, defeating Stuart Hamilton via back nine tiebreaker, while Brain Fitzpatrick’s nett 68 led him to a comfortable win in Division 3.
